Biography of Nancy L. Zimpher
Nancy L. Zimpher served as the University of Cincinnati's president from October of 2003 until May of 2009. She was the university's 25th president and its first woman president. Zimpher attended The Ohio State University where she received a bachelor's degree in English education and speech, a master's degree in English literature, and a PhD in teacher education and administration in higher education. Prior to her arrival at UC, Dr. Zimpher was the Executive Dean of the Professional Colleges and Dean of the College of Education at The Ohio State University , and served as the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (1998-2003). Under Zimpher's leadership, the university embarked on the UC|21: Defining the New Urban Research Universitystrategic plan, the university's decision-making process was restructured, and admission standards were raised. On June 1, 2009, Zimpher became chancellor of the State University of New York system.
