Southwest Ohio Folklore Collection
Scope and Content
The Southwest Ohio Folklore Collection in the University of Cincinnati Archives & Rare Books Library is made up of several hundred small research projects of written and illustrated folklore that have been collected since the early 1970s by the students of professor emeritus Edgar Slotkin.
The Southwest Ohio Folklore Collection features a diverse sampling of folklore. The collection includes folklore of Southwestern Ohio and features information on various ethnic groups that are found within the region. The majority of the individual collections are written passages, though the collection does feature an array of scanned images, photographs and booklets.

Biography of Edgar Slotkin
The Southwest Ohio Folklore Collection was donated by professor emeritus Edgar Slotkin. Slotkin earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1977 and specialized in literature, Celtic languages and folklore. In addition to his contribution to a vast array of research and writing projects, Slotkin began accumulating collections of folklore gathered by his students while teaching at the University of Cincinnati. These folklore collection assignments now make up the Southwest Ohio Folklore Collection.
