Scope and Content

The collection contains material from Miriam (Walker) Dyson's 1930 trip to Geneva, Switzerland for the Geneva School of International Studies including a journal, catalog, and various brochures and momentos from her trip. Also included in the collection are news clippings about Miriam's involvement in organizations at UC and in the Cincinnati community.

Biography of Miriam (Walker) Dyson

Miriam (Walker) Dyson was a Cincinnati native. She attended Hughes High School and the University of Cincinnati. While a student at UC, Walker was involved in numerous student organizations. Walker was Vice President of Student Council, Chairman of Vigilance for the Women's Student Government Association, Secretary of the Mummers, and a member of the Mystic Thirteen, Alpha Gamma Delta, the YWCA cabinet, and the Literary Society. During the summer of 1930, Walker represented UC at the Geneva School of International Studies, which brought together students from many different countries to learn about different cultures.

She graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1930 with a Bachelor of Arts. After graduation she worked for the Emergency Adult Education Committee and was an office of the Consumers' League of Cincinnati. In 1936, Miriam married Roscoe Dyson, a 1932 graduate of UC's College of Engineering.
