A collection of biographical materials, correspondence, artwork, photographs, regalia, reprints, bound volumes, etc. from Dr. Martin Fischer.

Technical Requirements

Viewing and handling certain materials in the Martin H. Fischer archival collection may require particular care or caution because of their relatively delicate condition.

Acquisition Information

Presumably, most materials were once in Martin H. Fischer's personal possetion and then donated to the University of Cincinnati after his passing in 1962. His materials were apparently separated according to his 'last will and testament': Wittenberg University received a large portion of his documents along with the University of Cincinnati. Other materials in the collection were likely donated by a handful of generous people or perhaps once an irrelevant part of another collection.

Accruals

Little, if any additional material is expected.

Related Material

Separated Material

Materials from the Martin H. Fischer archival collection, as well as certain materials closely related to the collection, are frequently and/or permanently on display. As of this time (2015), a large portion of The Cantagalli Pharmacy is located in the Stanley J. Lucas Board Room of the Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions, University of Cincinnati's Medical Sciences Building. Likewise, various publications of Dr. Fischer may be on loan, in the Winkler Center's Hauck Gallery, and/or otherwise preserved in the Winkler Center's repository.

Bibliography

A decent amount of information exists about Dr. Fischer online - at least compared to the focuses of other collections at The Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions. Given his extensive involvement during his life, this is not exactly surprising. Perhaps the majority of this information concerns quotes from his lectures and publications, Fischerisms in particular. At one time, several electronic 'blogs' were written and published to the University of Cincinnati Libraries' Blog (LiBlog) regarding or referencing Dr. Martin H. Fischer and his impact on the University of Cincinnati.

Processing Information

The original order of materials in a topic of high speculation. However, at the time eleven boxes, perhaps half of which were in any recognizable sense of organization. This may be a vestigial remnant of Martin H. Fischer's own organizational system; perhaps more likely is that the collection was once organized and then received several significant additions of miscellaneous material without any serious adaptation in organization. It certainly appeared as if an archivist or biographer labeled many of the folders containing Martin H. Fischer's documents as well as some of the original documents themselves.
