Biographical / Historical

Dr. Harold Hiatt graduated from Wilimington Collge, Wilimington, Ohio, in 1943 and later earned his medical degree from the Universit of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine. He performed his internship at the Cincinnati General Hospital.

He taught for awhile at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Later, he was appointed psychiatrist at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. and served as a captain in the Medical Corps.

Hiatt served as the chief of psychiatry at the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati from 1954-1979. At UC, he was appointed associate professor in 1968, full professor in 1974, and became emeritus professor in 1992, when he retired.

During his long career he was awarded the Certificate of Distinction by the Ohio Medical Association, the Ohio Psychiatric Association Distinguished Service Award and the Ohio Psychiatric Association Certificate of Leadership.

His medical memberships included the Ohio Psychiatric Assocation and the Cincinnati College of Medicine Alumni Assocaiton. He served as president of the Cincinnati Society of Neurology and Psychiatry. He was a fellow of the American College of Psychiatry and life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Harold Hiatt passed away in March 2, 1999.
